About this specialisation:
Gem-cutting is a crucial step in enhancing the value of precious stones, maximizing their brilliance, color, weight, and unique characteristics. In this specialisation, you will learn the fundamentals of gem-cutting and facet various stones under supervision. At the end, you will take the finished stones with you.
Objectives:
Acquire knowledge and practical skills in cutting cabochon and faceted gemstones.
Target audience: Open to all interested individuals. No prerequisites required.
Program:
Basic Gemology:
Fundamental concepts of gemology, including the physical and optical properties of stones.
Characteristics affecting cutting: size, clarity, color, and inclusions.
Introduction to Gem-cutting:
The importance of cutting in enhancing the value of stones.
Information/support systems for cutting.
Overview of different cuts and shapes in gem-cutting.
Selection and evaluation of the stone and the cut to be performed.
Optimization of the cutting diagram.
Gemstone Cutting (Practical):
Identification, characterization, and demonstration of equipment and tools to be used.
Parameter settings.
Cutting of cabochon and faceted gemstones according to the defined and optimized diagram.
Polishing.
Certificate:
A certificate of attendance will be issued to participants with attendance equal to or greater than 80%.
The pieces created are the property of the participant.
Training exempt from VAT - Art. 9º CIVA.
